Day 1: Addis Ababa to Semera → Hamedila
● Flight from Addis Ababa to Semera:
In the morning, you’ll catch a flight from Addis Ababa to Semera, the capital of the Afar Region. Upon arrival, your local guide and team will be waiting to welcome you.
● Drive from Semera to Hamedila via Afdera:
After meeting your guide, you’ll begin your journey to Hamedila, a small settlement in the heart of the Danakil Depression. On your way, you’ll pass through Afdera, a desert-like terrain where you can witness the dry and arid beauty of the region.
● Visit to Salt Lake at Sunset:
Arriving in Hamedila, you will be taken to the nearby salt lake, a vast expanse of gleaming white salt flats. This is an ideal spot to enjoy the surreal sunset, as the changing colors of the sky reflect off the salt and create an unforgettable scene.
● Camping in Hamedila:
After sunset, the group will set up camp in Hamedila for the night. The tour includes all necessary camping equipment, such as tents, sleeping bags, and mats, ensuring you are well-equipped for the night.
● Dinner at the Hamedila Camp:
A delicious dinner will be prepared by your onboard chef, offering you local dishes that give you a taste of the Afar culture.
Day 2: Dalol → Erta Ale
● Visit to the Sulfur Pools and Salt Canyons in Dalol:
Early in the morning, you will drive to the Dalol area, known for its surreal landscapes, including the famous sulfur springs and colorful salt canyons. The colors here are truly out of this world—yellow, red, and orange from the sulfur deposits, making the whole landscape look like something from another planet. The stark contrast of the hot, vibrant colors against the dry desert environment is a photographer’s paradise.
● Drive to Erta Ale:
After visiting Dalol, you will continue the journey to Erta Ale, one of the few active volcanoes on Earth. This remote location is home to one of the most accessible and active lava lakes in the world.
● Camping Near Erta Ale Crater:
Arriving at Erta Ale, you will set up camp near the volcano’s edge. The volcanic activity here is constant, and you’ll have the chance to witness the flowing lava and red-hot lava lake from a safe distance. This is one of the highlights of the trip, where you can feel the raw power of nature.
● Dinner at the Erta Ale Camp:
Enjoy dinner prepared on-site by your chef, with the backdrop of the flickering glow from the lava lake.
Day 3: Erta Ale → Semera → Afdera Lake → Flight to Addis Ababa
● Morning Visit to Erta Ale:
You’ll wake up early to see the volcano’s lava lake at its most active. This is a great time to observe the lava’s movements, as it’s often at its most visible during the morning hours. Afterward, you’ll enjoy breakfast before departing.
● Drive back to Semera via Afdera:
After the morning visit, you’ll begin your drive back to Semera via Afdera. The drive takes you through the unforgiving desert terrain, but it offers you a chance to reflect on the sights you’ve seen.
● Swimming at Afdera Lake:
On the way back, you’ll stop at Afdera Lake, known for its saltwater and scenic beauty. It’s an excellent opportunity to cool off, take a dip, and relax before your journey back.
● Flight from Semera to Addis Ababa:
You’ll arrive back in Semera in time to catch the flight back to Addis Ababa, departing at 5:25 PM.

● Transport:
All transportation in the Danakil region by 4x4 vehicles with a knowledgeable driver.
● Accommodation & Camping:
All camping equipment (tents, sleeping bags, sleeping mats) will be provided for a comfortable camping experience at each location.
● Meals:
All meals during the tour (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) will be provided. Meals are freshly prepared by the tour chef, with a focus on local and regional food.
● Guides & Scouts:
The tour is led by experienced local guides who are well-versed in the history and geography of the region. Additionally, you’ll have an armed scout for safety as per local regulations.

● Alcoholic Drinks and Souvenirs:
Any alcoholic beverages or souvenirs you wish to purchase during the tour are at your own expense.
● Flights from Addis Ababa:
The international flights from your home country to Addis Ababa, as well as the internal flights from Addis Ababa to Semera, are not included in the tour cost. These need to be arranged separately.
● Tips & Travel Insurance:
Tips for the guides, drivers, and cooks are not included, and it is recommended to carry some cash for this purpose. Travel insurance is also not included, and travelers should ensure they have adequate coverage for the trip.
● Visa & International Flights:
You will need to arrange your visa for Ethiopia independently. International flights to and from Addis Ababa are also not included.
Important Information:
● Climate:
The Danakil Depression is extremely hot, and temperatures can exceed 40°C (104°F) during the day. Make sure to pack light, breathable clothing, sunscreen, and plenty of water to stay hydrated.
● Health & Safety:
The Danakil region is a remote and rugged area, so it’s essential to be in good health. The tour is designed for adventurous travelers, but please consult your doctor for any medical advice or vaccinations before your trip. It’s important to be prepared for basic camping conditions, as some locations, especially near Erta Ale, are very primitive.
● Cultural Respect:
The Afar people are known for their hospitality, but it’s important to respect local customs, traditions, and the environment. Always ask permission before taking photos of people or their homes.
● What to Bring:
